This privacy statement discloses the privacy practices of Ed100.org.

What information does Ed100 gather from users?

Information Users Provide Directly: Ed100 collects information directly from users users in several ways, including information they enter in their Profile, such as name, email address, display name and school.

Information Users Provide Indirectly: In addition, as users read and complete lessons and posts, Ed100 automatically collects information from users about their progress. Ed100 also keeps track when users share lessons or comments. This information is collected through the use of web forms, cookies, and other methods.

Information Users Post on the Website: Users may add comments to lesson pages or blog posts. Information provided through comments on lessons or blog posts is visible to all site visitors (including those not signed in as members of the Ed100 community), so users are cautioned to make their comments with this in mind.

What Information is Collected by Third Parties?

The website may include links to other websites, and other content from third-party businesses. These third-parties may use cookies and web beacons to track the actions of users online over time and across different web sites or platforms to deliver targeted electronic advertisements to an individual user. Ed100 does not have access to or control over web beacons or cookies that third party websites may use. Ed100 is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these third-party websites. Users are encouraged to review the privacy policies of the different websites that they visit. In addition, some third-party advertising companies may provide a mechanism to opt-out of their technology. How does Ed100 use this information?

Ed100 uses data to personalize the user experience, for example by highlighting lessons the user has not yet completed, shared, or commented on. Users may qualify for contests or drawings based on information about their completion of lessons, blogs and other interaction. (See contest rules for details. No purchase required.)

Ed100 uses data to help form and support user groups, including school groups, district groups, and ad-hoc groups. Ed100 uses data to understand and analyze individual and aggregate usage of the service. User comments on lessons and posts are moderated; Ed100 reserves the right to use, discard or modify them. Ed100 is a community of learners, and civility is expected.

Ed100 may email registered users with updates about Ed100, as well as about products and services that Ed100 believes may be of interest to users. Users that wish to opt out of receiving these emails from Ed100, can follow the instructions contained in each email they receive from Ed100 which will allow the user to opt out of receiving further communications from Ed100.

How does Ed100 share data?

Each user's public profile may be visible to other users of Ed100. The public profile includes the "display name" that the user sets for public use, accomplishments such as the user's progress through the lessons, and information about the schools, districts, organizations and Ed100 study groups with which that user is associated. The public profile does not disclose contact information.

Ed100 uses third-party vendors to provide services related to Ed100, such as sending email messages to subscribers. The information that a user submits on the site will be provided to these vendors so that we may send Ed100 communications to users. Ed100 may also use third-party media measurement services to develop and analyze audience metrics, including the use of surveys. Ed100 may share user contact and site usage information with nonprofit organizations including the California state PTA.

To the extent permitted by law, Ed100 will disclose user information to government authorities or third parties if: (i) required to do so by law, or in response to a subpoena or court order; (ii) Ed100 believes in our sole discretion that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect against fraud, to protect the property or other rights of us or other users, third parties or the public at large; or (iii) Ed100 believes that you have abused the web site by using it to attack other systems or to gain unauthorized access to any other system, to engage in spamming or otherwise to violate applicable laws. Following disclosure to any third party, user information may be accessible by others to the extent permitted or required by applicable law.

California Do Not Track Disclosures

The settings on users’ browsers may be adjusted so that “do not track” requests are sent to the web sites that they visit. However, because the major features of Ed100 require user data to function, Ed100 will not disable tracking technology that may be active on the web site in response to any “do not track” requests that Ed100 receives from users’ browsers. However, most lessons and blog posts may be viewed without signing in.

Notification of Changes

As we continue to develop Ed100, this privacy policy likely will change. The date at the top of this page indicates the current version number. You agree to review this policy periodically since these changes, modifications, additions or deletions shall be effective immediately upon posting and your subsequent use after the posting of the revised privacy policy shall conclusively be deemed to be acceptance by you of the applicable changes, modifications or deletions.

Children Under Age 13

The website is not intended for children under age 13. Ed100 does not knowingly collect or distribute personal information from or about children under the age of 13.

Use of Your Information Outside of Your Country of Residence

If a user is located outside of the United States and chooses to use the website or provide information to Ed100, this information may be transferred to, processed and maintained on servers or databases located in the United States. Use of the website and the submission of information through the web site represents consent and agreement to these practices and the terms of this Privacy Policy. Users that do not want their information transferred to or processed or maintained in the United States should not use the website.
